“Friends of Matt” representing Langley and Paul VI High Schools assemble goodie bags for golfers attending the Matthew Vernon Poyner Memorial Foundation Inaugural Golf Tournament on Oct. 12 at Hidden Creek Country Club in Reston.

The tournament celebrates the life of 16-year-old Great Falls resident Matt Poyner who died suddenly in February 2015 of acute viral myocarditis. The foundation raises funds to support wounded veterans, award youth scholarships and to advance research into detection and prevention of viral myocarditis in healthy young people.

The students are running the “Friends of Matt” 18th Hole Sponsorship Drive. Committee members are collecting cash donations and donors will sign a large “Friends of Matt” banner to be displayed at the tournament by the 18th green. Additional donations to the 18th hole sponsorship can be made through the foundation’s website at www.mvplegacy.org – look for “Friends of Matt” on the home page.
