“A Place Called Home: Fairfax County. A 275th Anniversary Event” is a day-long exploration of the sprawling geography and history of Fairfax County. On Saturday, April 29, 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m., the day will begin with a brief overview of the County’s history by Janet Bailey, president of the Fairfax Genealogical Society. Next, explore the county GIS website, which is replete with interactive maps and aerial photographs, with Mike Liddle, GIS (Geographic Information System) Customer Service Supervisor, www.fairfaxcounty.gov/maps. Listen to Dr. Pat Donahue tell the remarkable stories she uncovered about the Pimmit Hills neighborhood next to Tysons Corner and the resources she used to make those discoveries. Though few realized it at the time, the construction of the Pimmit Hills subdivision in 1950 marked one of the most important events in our County’s history. Pimmit Hills was a beachhead for modernity in what was then a largely rural county.
