Area Players Receive All-District Basketball Honors

The Matrix High School (graduation year 2021) Basketball Team, coached by Phil McConnell, announced All-District honors for five of their returning sophomore players.

  • Hannah Kaloi of Oakton High School – 1st Team All-District, 1st Team All-District Defensive Team
  • Brianna Scott of South Lakes High School – 1st Team All-District
  • Lexi White of West Springfield High School – 1st Team All-District
  • Juliana Park of Lake Braddock Secondary – 2nd Team All-District
  • Meagan Baxter of Chantilly High School – 2nd Team All-District

When asked about why so many of his players performed at such a high level this year, McConnell, said “Each of these girls know how to work hard and have a real love for the game. During the AAU season, we spend 2-4 days a week together perfecting their game and I would have been surprised if our players didn’t turn a few heads during their high school seasons.”

Throughout the 2018 AAU season, the Matrix team did extremely well, with schools like BYU, Columbia, George Washington, Johns Hopkins, and Duke, expressing interest in their players. Phil McConnell went on to say: “It is nice when you have parents like Christy Scott, a legend in Maryland basketball and a Basketball Analyst with ESPN and the Big 10 Network, willing to help mentor these young women off court. The support we get from all our parents is incredible.”
