Vienna Police Highlights: Oct. 23 – Oct. 29, 2020

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna Police Department from Oct. 23 – Oct. 29, 2020.

INCIDENTS

Fraud -- 500 Block Brentwood Court, NW, Between Oct. 7 at 12 a.m. and Oct. 23 at 12:28 p.m. A resident reported that two checks she had mailed were stolen, forged, and cashed.

Petit Larceny -- 200 Block Moore Avenue, SE, Between Oct. 17 at 9 p.m. and Oct. 18 at 9 a.m. A resident reported that a political sign was stolen from her yard.

Extortion -- 100 Block Dogwood Street, SW, Between Oct. 18 at 12 p.m. and Oct. 22 at 11:45 a.m. A resident reported that he met a woman on-line and began corresponding with her through social media, including intimate video chats. The resident then started receiving text messages threatening to release photos of him unless he sent them money.

Suspicious Person -- Versatile Title and Escrow, 117 Pleasant Street SW

Oct. 19, 5:30 p.m. On Oct. 23, an employee reported that when she was leaving work on Oct. 19 she observed a man urinating behind the dumpster at the rear of the building.

Domestic Dispute -- Delano Drive, SE, Oct. 22, 12:56 p.m. Officers responded to a domestic dispute between a resident and her teenage daughter.

Trespassing -- 500 Block Wolftrap Road, SE, Oct. 22, 3:35 p.m. A citizen came to check on the new construction at his property and found a man with his work truck stuck in the mud on the property. A tow truck was called to remove the van from the mud. The man was advised that he was not permitted on the property and may be arrested if he returns.

Vehicle Tampering -- 400 Block Victoria Court, NW, Between Oct. 22 at 4 p.m. and Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. A resident reported that someone rummaged through her unlocked vehicle.

Vehicle Tampering -- 600 Block Upham Place, NW, Oct. 22 between 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. A resident reported that someone rummaged through her unlocked vehicle.

Grand Larceny -- 600 Block Upham Place, NW, Oct. 22 between 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. A resident reported that someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole his wallet and credit cards. Two of his credit cards were used to make unauthorized purchases.

Petit Larceny -- 600 Block Tazewell Road, NW, Between Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 23 at 7 a.m. A resident reported that a bicycle was stolen from his carport.

Suspicious Event -- 7-11, 537 Maple Avenue, West, Oct. 22, 10:16 p.m.

Officers responded to the report of an assault. A customer reported that two juveniles were spraying Fabreeze in the store and some of the spray landed on him, which led to a verbal dispute. The customer then attempted to block the cash register while the juveniles made their purchase. Officers determined that juveniles did not intentionally spray the customer and that no assault occurred.

Grand Larceny -- Nutley Street and Marshall Road, SW, Oct. 23, 9:30 a.m.

A Town of Vienna employee reported that the “Welcome To Vienna” sign was stolen from the median on Nutley Street.

Fraud -- 200 Block Commons Drive, NW, Between Oct. 23 at 12 p.m. and Oct. 28 at 12 p.m. A resident reported that a check she had mailed was stolen, forged, and cashed.

Police Service -- 300 Block Tapawingo Road, SE, Oct. 24, 12:50 p.m. A resident turned in ammo for destruction.

Destruction of Property -- 100 Block Glyndon Street, NE, Between Oct. 24 at 10 p.m. and Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. A resident reported that her residence was struck with paintballs.

Runaway -- 100 Block Yeonas Drive, SW, Oct. 24 at 11:00 p.m. A resident reported that her teenage son left home with his father against their custody order. On Oct. 26, the juvenile was located by police and determined to be safe at his father’s home in New York.

Vehicle Tampering -- 400 Block Orchard Street, NW, Between Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. and Oct. 26 at 8 a.m. A resident reported that someone entered his vehicle and stole his wallet, credit cards, and sunglasses. The credit cards were later used to make unauthorized purchases.

Destruction of Property -- 1000 Block Hillcrest Drive, SW, Between Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 26 at 10 a.m. A resident reported that someone pulled up three small American flags from her yard and cut them into pieces.

Assist EMS -- 500 Block Malcolm Road, NW, Oct. 26, 2:15 p.m. Officers responded to assist rescue personnel with a resident suffering a medical emergency and CPR was in progress. Rescue personnel transported the man to an area hospital for treatment.

Suspicious Event -- Plaka Grill, 110 Lawyers Road, NW, Oct. 26, 7:11 p.m.

The owner of the restaurant reported that furniture was illegally disposed of in their dumpster.

Suspicious Event -- Wolftrap Hotel, 430 Maple Avenue, West, Oct. 27, 11:15 a.m. A resident reported that she felt threatened by her neighbor at the hotel. The neighbor reported the resident was causing excessive noise. The resident was in the process of moving out of the hotel and both parties agreed to remain civil with each other.

Assault -- 300 Block Orchard Street, NW, Oct. 27, 5:05 p.m. A resident reported that she was arguing with her sister and niece when her sister struck her. The resident did not wish to pursue charges.

Vehicle Tampering -- 400 Block Orchard Street, NW, Between Oct. 27 at 10 p.m. and Oct. 28 at 10:30 a.m. A resident reported that someone rummaged through his unlocked vehicle.

Grand Larceny -- 200 Block Walnut Lane, NW, Between Oct. 27 at 11:30 p.m. and Oct. 28 at 8 p.m. A resident reported that someone entered their unlocked vehicle and stole jewelry, a laptop, and binders with football and baseball cards.

Animal Case -- East Street and Creek Crossing Road, NE, Oct. 28, 8 a.m.

ACO Barker responded to the report of a sick raccoon on the walking path. He found the raccoon was in grave condition and euthanized the animal.

Suspicious Event -- 900 Block Ware Street, SW, Oct. 28 between 8:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. A resident reported their neighbor followed her to work, then called her employer and made false statements about her.

Petit Larceny -- 500 Block Old Courthouse Road, NE, Oct. 28 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. A resident reported that political signs were stolen from his yard.

Found Property -- 300 Block Windover Avenue, NW, Oct. 28, 9:36 a.m. A resident found three baggies of miscellaneous jewelry in his yard.

CRASHES

Maple Avenue and Niblick Drive, SE, Oct. 21, 7:34 a.m.Vehicle-2 was traveling in the left eastbound lane of Maple Avenue. Vehicle-1 was on Niblick Drive, attempting to turn left onto Maple Avenue. As Vehicle-1 entered the roadway, he was struck by Vehicle-2. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

300 Block Maple Avenue, West, Oct. 29, 12:05 p.m. Vehicle-2 was traveling eastbound in the left lane on Maple Avenue. Vehicle-1 was exiting 370 Maple Avenue, West to enter the left turn lane and collided with Vehicle-2.
