Tornado Hits Down in Arlington

The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF level 1 tornado touched down in Arlington near the intersection of Lee Highway and Glebe Road at about 9:00 p.m. July 1. An EF level 1 is measured with 3-second wind bursts of between 86-110 mph. Just after 9 p.m. the Arlington Fire Department answered 16 fire alarms with 15 wires down, 16 outside or structure fires, 1 vehicle crash and one technical rescue. The storm caused about 5,000 power outages in homes from downed power lines and tree damage. No injuries or deaths were recorded. This shed on the corner of Randolph and 21st Street was demolished and garage damaged when a large limb was sheared from the backyard tree.
