Hero

By Elaine Zhang, 11 years old

he·ro

/ˈhirō/

a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.

(as defined by Oxford Languages)

A glint of blue

a flash of gold

unknown stories

undivulged

the stories combined together

seem to answer a question

we’ve been asking ourselves

for way too long:

“what makes a hero?”

one who never hesitates to tackle the most difficult problems

and is always by your side

one who knows right from wrong

and always acts with pride

one who finds service to be a privilege

and never stops to stride

a hero touches every one of us

whether it be word or deed

always helping those

who find themselves in need

a hero doesn’t wear a cape or levitate

true heroes

unsung heroes

wear blue and gold

yet their stories

undivulged
