Register Now for the Fall ‘Virtual’ Senior Academy

Sessions begin Wednesday, Sept. 22

— This fall’s Senior Academy is going virtual via Zoom again, and registration is open for city residents 60+ or those who work in the City of Alexandria. This 4-week free course will meet every Wednesday morning starting Sept. 22 from 10 to 11:30 am and continue Sept. 29, Oct. 6 and Oct. 13.

Each Wednesday morning session will feature speakers including a welcome from Mayor Justin Wilson, presentation by the City Manager’s Office as well as other departments including Transportation, Planning, Office of Housing, Alexandria Health Department and the Division of Aging and Adult Services. Attendees will also hear from our first responders, Police, Fire and Sheriff. The last session will include presentations from the Alexandria Library, Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Activities and the Office of Historic Alexandria.

Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and receive a lot of great information on city programs and services for older adults. It will also provide ways that you can become more engaged in the community and make your voice heard.

To register go to www.seniorservicesalex.org or contact Lindsay Hemphill at admin@seniorservicesalex.org or MaryAnne Beatty at communications@seniorservicesalex.org.

On Friday, Sept. 17 at 10 am via Zoom, Senior Services of Alexandria (SSA) is holding a volunteer training for its Senior Ambassador Program. This is a flexible volunteer opportunity to provide information to your respective faith communities or housing and condo associations about all the programs and services available to older adults residing in the City of Alexandria. If you would like to know more about SSA’s Senior Ambassador program or attend the virtual training contact MaryAnne Beatty at communications@seniorservicesalex.org.
