Alexandria Police Arrest Suspect

Local Man Charged in First Homicide This Year

Alexandria detectives late last week arrested Russell Lorenzo Brown and charged him with murder in the stabbing death of a homeless man earlier this month.

Brown, 44, of no fixed address, was arrested without incident at about 4 p.m., on Wednesday, May 29, in the 900 block of North Henry Street. He is charged with the May 7 stabbing of Kevin Lavon Friend, 45, with no fixed address, near the corner of Edsall Road and South Reynolds Street.

Police revealed that the two men had been arguing and began to fight. After the victim was stabbed, the suspect fled the area. The victim was flown to Fairfax Hospital and underwent emergency surgery, but he developed a blood clot and died the following day. Police will not disclose the nature of the dispute or a motive for the attack.

Brown is being held without bond at the Alexandria Jail.
