Churchill Performs 'Music Man'

Things are never going to be the same in River City, Iowa, not with an underhanded newcomer, the once-upstanding librarian who loves him and a spectrum of musical styles stirring things up.

Churchill High School’s production of “The Music Man” stars David Fraga as Harold Hill, Lauren Dosik as Marion Paroo, Emily Schulman as Mrs. Paroo and Ben Stano as Winthrop Paroo.

“It’s very different,” said Fraga on the play. “It’s exciting, and that facilitates getting into character.”

Dosik provided the following plot teaser for her senior-year musical:

Professor Harold Hill comes to River City, Iowa. He’s a swindler, and he creates ‘trouble’ in town. Marion Paroo, the town librarian and music teacher, catches on to Hill but falls in love with him anyway. She tries to expose him and get him in trouble with the mayor of the town, but in doing so, her feelings begin to change.

“My character is a very intelligent but somewhat snobby and quiet type,” said Dosik. “I think I’m going to have a really good time with it.”

“It’s such a classic,” said Stano. “It’s a well-known show, it’s a corny show, but it’s a fun show. … It’s got some very interesting musical styles. There’s a percussive opening, and it’s got a barbershop quartet.”
