Promoting Safety Through Fun

A huge, air-filled McGruff the Crime Dog towered over downtown Herndon Saturday afternoon as the Herndon Crime Prevention Council held Fall Family Safety Day.

Visitors mingled with town police officers and members of the Herndon Police's Citizen Support Team and had their faces painted, won prizes from the disc jockey and decorated pumpkins.

The key word of the day was safety, so visitors also had the opportunity to have their bicycles inspected and registered, child-safety seats installed, Safelite Auto Glass etch an identification on their car window and youngsters receive free bicycle helmets and child identification cards.
