Absentee Voting Already Taking Place at Satellite Locations

Joe Johnson and Harry Jackson have taken 141 votes since Oct. 15. As satellite election officials, they have been running the absentee voting at the Mount Vernon Governmental Center, 2511 Parkers Lane. It is one of six satellite absentee voting locations in Fairfax County.

Last Saturday, Patrick Kelly was there to vote. Kelly is an election chief and said he is usually away from his precinct on Election Day, so he chose to do the absentee voting. He brought his daughter, Caroline, with him to see how the voting process worked.

Johnson and Jackson signed him in and showed him the book with the sample ballot. It took only a few minutes for him to review the ballot and place his vote. Before he and Caroline left, they received voting stickers from Johnson.

Absentee voting sites are open through Nov. 1, Monday-Friday, 3:30-7:30 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
