Police Arrest Doctor on Molestation Charges

Alexandria police have arrested a local doctor and charged him with mollesting a patient.

According to police officials, Fausto D. Fernandez, 64, of Alexandria, turned himself into police on May 11 in response to a warrant that had been issued for his arrest.

Police said that on Nov. 26, 2003, a 38-year-old Alexandria man reported that he had been victimized by Fernandez during a physical examination. The victim had gone to Fernandez who specialized in physical examinations for immigration purposes. The victim was in the process of applying for resident alien status.

Police are investigating whether Fernandez may have victimized other patients.

"Victims of sexual abuse are often hesitant to report these kinds of crimes," said Detective Sandy Hein. "Immigrants may be even more reluctant to come forward, but it's important for them to know that we want to help them."

Anyone with information related to this case or other incidents that may have involved Fernandez should contact Detective Hein at 703-838-4711.
