<b>Hidden Creek Hurricanes</b>

The Hidden Creek Hurricanes finished the season with several outstanding swims at the Dominion Country Club League’s All-Star meet, on the weekend of July 25-26. Sierra Jeter and Tiger Barbee once again led the way with first-place finishes in each of their individual events. Jeter took first place in the 11-12-year-old girls’ 50-meter freestyle, 50 butterfly and 100 individual medley. Barbee won the 13-14 boys’ 50 free, 50 backstroke and 100 IM. Warren Breiseth, Ben Barbee, Carolyn Barbee, Grace Nalepka, Regan Glembocki and Kelly Dore also represented Hidden Creek in the finals.

<b>Records and Scholarships</b>

The Herndon Swim League conducted its 27th Annual All-League Meet on July 25 at Four Seasons Pool. Participating teams included Bradley Farms, Four Seasons, Foxfield, Herndon Community Center, Hunters Creek, Kingston Chase, Kingstream, Meadows, Reflection and Sterling Park. During the meet, two league records were broken by Christian Ginieczki (Kingston Chase) in the 9-10-year-old boys’ freestyle and Conor Cudahy (Hunters Creek) in the 13-14 boys’ backstroke.

Between swim events, awards were presented and Hilary Warnock was this year’s recipient of the Herndon Swim League Commissioner’s Award. Warnock was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the HSL and her many years of dedicated service. Also, of the league’s 30 graduating seniors, six were awarded $500 scholarships. This year’s recipients were Sarah Wilson, Tyler Ogden, Hannah Miller, Jenny Davis, Ellie Kaufmann and Maggie Russell. The funds to support these scholarships come from many businesses throughout the Herndon community.

<b>RYA Registration</b>

Registration is open through the end of August for Reston Youth Association (RYA) fall football and cheerleading. The RYA programs are open to youth ages 7-16. No experience is needed and full player participation is guaranteed, regardless of ability or experience. Three levels of play are offered in each weight class based on age, weight and experience. Games will be played on the turf fields at Lake Fairfax Park. Practice begins Aug. 10 at Langston Hughes Middle School, the first games are Sept. 19 and the season ends by Thanksgiving. <b>Fall Registration Now Open</b>

Herndon-Reston Youth Softball is a girls’ fastpitch softball league serving players ages 6 to 18 in the greater Reston-Herndon area Fall registration is now open. To register, visit the organization’s Web site at www.hrysfastpitch.com/Register.
