Celebrating Obama’s Birthday in Old Town

— Hawaii Islanders and Obama supporters celebrated President Barack Obama’s birthday at Hunting Point on the Potomac in Alexandria Saturday, Aug. 4, with a barbeque, birthday cake, and music. Organizing for America Fellow Dave Chun hosted the cookout for about 35 members of the Washington area Hawaii Islander community and Obama supporters in Alexandria and the Mount Vernon District of Fairfax County. The event featured Hawaiian music, food, and a cake that read: Hau`oli La Hanau (Happy Birthday), Hawaii’s son, President Barack Obama, Mahalo (thank you), for the Affordable Care Act and the Lilly Leadbetter Act. Partygoers feasted on Hawaiian-style kalua pork, poke (tune), poi (taro root), and corned beef and onions as well as Korean style teriyaki ribs and spicy beef, South Carolina style BBQ chicken, smoked salmon, and an assortment of pastas, quinoa, bean salads, tossed salad, and vegetables.
