— Van Metre Companies, parent company of Mount Vernon Athletic Club, has been awarded Healthiest Employer 2012 by the Washington Business Journal. The company reports annual savings of $200,000 in health care costs as well as receiving payoff in better team-building, higher worker productivity and more employee satisfaction.

Employees of Van Metre, a Fairfax real estate development company, are encouraged to perform an hour’s worth of wellness activity per day at the company’s 50,000-square-foot award winning fitness and tennis facility, the Mount Vernon Athletic Club.

Company founder Albert Van Metre purchased Mount Vernon Athletic Club as a place to foster health and wellness and to provide a community hub for the families in the Alexandria area. Mount Vernon Athletic Club is celebrating 40 years of business and was just featured on the cover of the October issue of Club Business International.

Corporate wellness coordinator, David Costa, who is also an accredited personal trainer promotes a program of exercising in small groups with boot camp, yoga, and educational videos and intranet blog health suggestions.
