Hudgins Honored for Outstanding Service to Children

The Governing Board of the Northern Virginia Association for the Education of Young Children has announced that Supervisor Catherine M. Hudgins (D-Hunter Mill) has been selected to receive the 2012 NVAEYC Award for Outstanding Service to Children. This annual award recognizes an individual for making significant and enduring contributions to the children and families of the community.

In her capacity as supervisor she serves as the chair of the board's Human Services and Housing and Community Development Committees and is a member of the Governing Board for the Initiative to Prevent and End Homelessness.

Supervisor Hudgins has been promoting the collaboration of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and the Fairfax County School Board working in partnership with the community to ensure that all children entering kindergarten are well prepared to succeed. Supervisor Hudgins is the board’s liaison for the County’s Head Start/Early Head Start program, and has consistently supported child care assistance for families earning low-income, pre-k, child care for working families, school-age programs, and the early childhood professionals who work each day to help every family succeed and every child thrive.
