Rick Makely

Rick Makely is retiring after 39 years of service to Giant Food. Makely began his career at Giant as a parcel pick-up clerk, and over the course of nearly four decades, filled a variety of positions for the grocer, including dairy clerk, deli manager, shrink manager, store manager, and district manager for Montgomery County, Md. and Northern Virginia, finishing his career as store manager of the McLean Giant Food. Makely was passionate about bringing jobs to the McLean area, serving five years on the Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce.

For Makely, his tag that reads “Pride in My Giant” reflected his everyday approach to his job and served as a reminder to represent the organization, associates, and himself in a manner in which he could be proud. Customers and associates of the McLean Giant Food will remember him as an integral member of the Giant family and a true embodiment of Giant’s commitment to being a better neighbor. Makely officially retired on Aug. 8.
