Call to End Gun Violence

On Monday, Dec. 14, the third anniversary of the Sandy Hook school shootings, clergy and community leaders from Fairfax County and beyond will gather at 7:30 p.m. to honor the 90,000 victims of gun violence and to call for people of faith to renew their commitment to ending gun violence at an Interfaith Memorial Service at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax, 2709 Hunter Mill Road, Oakton. UUCF’s Senior Minister Rev. David A. Miller will lead this service of music and reflections. Other service participants will include: Del. Kathleen Murphy (D-34), Rev. David K. North, director of Mosaic Harmony choir and pastor at Holy Redeemer Metropolitan Church in College Park, Md.; Rev. Kate Walker, minister at Mount Vernon Unitarian Church; Imam Ali Siddiqui, from the Islamic Center of Northern Virginia; and Senior Rabbi Amy Schwartzman, from Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church.

‘Spotlight on Women Artists’

The Vienna Branch of American Association of University Women (AAUW) will host “Spotlight on Women Artists” on Saturday, Jan. 9 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Vienna Art Center, 115 Pleasant St NW, Vienna. The informational event will feature a docent from the National Museum for Women in the Arts Erin Garland, who will talk about work in the museum's collection with an emphasis on artists in the Washington D.C. area. The program is open to the public and light refreshments will be served. There is ample parking behind the building. The entrance is in front of the building on Pleasant.
