On Wednesday, Nov. 11, more than 200 residents and family members attended a Veterans Day program at Greenspring retirement community. “Today is a day to remember and honor all of our veterans,” said resident Bob Zikowitz, U.S. Army (Ret.), who served as Master of Ceremonies.

This year, the guest speaker for Greenspring’s Veterans Day program was Amy Wittman, editor-in-chief of SEAPOWER magazine and staff vicepPresident, Communications at the Navy League of the United States. The Navy League was founded in 1902 and comprises 40,000 civilians providing a powerful voice for a stronger sea service to Congress and the American people.

The Veterans Day program also included a “Salute to the Armed Forces,” as well as performances of patriotic songs by Greenspring’s Choristers, resident and U.S. Army Colonel (Ret.) Gray Parks, and the Franke family, including Greenspring’s lead social Worker, Sue Franke, a retired U.S. Marine.

Greenspring is home to several resident groups celebrating and honoring military service including Daughters of the American Revolution, Women in Military Service, The American Legion of Greenspring, The Aero Club, and the Naval History and Heritage Group.
