During the weekend of Oct. 14-16, Boy Scouts of the Colonial District of the National Capital Area Council attended their fall camporee at the Patuxent River 4-H Center in Upper Marlboro, Md.  Theme of the camporee was "Search and Rescue."  The Scouts learned how drones can be used in wilderness searches, how to conduct searches for lost persons, how to communicate by radio, how to prevent being lost, basic first aid skills, cold weather survival techniques, and map reading skills.  Scouts also conducted mock searches for lost persons.  Representatives of the Coast Guard and the Maryland State Police Aviation unit were also present.  Nearly 400 Scouts, including many from Mount Vernon area, were in attendance.
